A record not worth holding

If good things happen in threes then bad things happen in fours.

David Bush gives up four straight homers

Damn son, that was just brutal to watch.

Don’t believe me? Just ask Milwaukee Brewers’ pitcher Dave Bush who tied a Major League Baseball record last night. In the fourth inning, Bush became only the third pitcher in MLB history to give up four home runs to four straight hitters: Adam LaRoche, Miguel Montero, Mark Reynolds and Steven Drew.

Bush’s dubious distinction leaves him tied with former Tigers’ pitcher Paul Foytack, and, oddly enough, another active Brewer pitcher, minor leaguer Chase Wright.

Wright who was a Yankee allowed four straight against Boston in only his second major league start before being traded to Milwaukee. For his career, Wright is 2-0 with a 7.02 ERA in 10 innings pitched in 2007. His second start, the one in which he allowed four straight jacks, was his last major league appearance.

Foytack, who had a nice seven year run as a starter for the Tigers from ’56 to ’63 only pitched in a handful of games after giving up four straight in a game against the Indians in 1963. For his career Foytack was 86-87 with a 4.14 ERA.

For Bush, who finished eighth in the 2004 Rookie of the Year Voting while with the Blue Jays, it might be time to think about polishing up the résumè. In the last two seasons, Bush is 10-19 with an ERA over 5.

And now you know the rest of the story……

Now that’s a fight

The Reds are Cardinals square off before a pitch is thrown in the bottom of the 1st. It’s going to be fun watching this race down the stretch.

Friar Tebow

Broncos’ rookie quarterback Tim Tebow got his wig snapped into a Friar Tuck cut from some of his veteran teammates during training camp hazing.

TIM TEBOW HAIRCUT

I'd still hit that

Oh Happy Day!

Some of my friends will tell you I’m a little bit obsessed with sports; to them I say, “Blow me ass munch.” I’m well rounded enough to understand how a federal court ruling can shape the future of my friends, and those I consider family, for years to come.

We all know that yesterday’s court ruling was one of those seminal events that signal a new day has dawned in America.

I understand how a simple court decision will impact generations and usher in a new sense of normalcy to our most cherished institution. That’s right it’s like ‘Morning in America’ for baseball.

What am I talking about? What, don’t you pay attention to the news? A federal judge ruled Nolan Ryan and Chuck Greenberg are the new owners of the Texas Rangers.

Seriously, you guys gotta get a life!

What’s that….really? A federal judge deemed California’s Prop 8 unconstitutional?

Maybe I do need help.

Greenberg-Ryan
Current GM Jon Daniels and the Chuck Greenberg-Nolan Ryan group earned the right to own the Texas Rangers. Their stewardship of the club, through what has been a tumultuous ownership transfer has been nothing short of miraculous.

Nolan Ryan's beat down of Robin Ventura

You're next Cuban!

Remarkably, whichever way it eventually played out — Ryan’s group or Mark Cuban’s group — it was a win-win situation for a franchise that has experienced very little in terms of good fortune.

I don’t believe in karma, omens, ghosts or things happening for a reason, to me things happen because someone or something worked to make it happen, but for those of you who do consider this:

  1. Minutes after the Greenburg-Ryan bid was accepted Rangers’ third baseman Michael Young hit a grand slam.
  2. Nolan Ryan became a part owner of the Rangers 17 years after the infamous headlock and beat down of a reluctant Robin Ventura.
  3. The Rangers rallied for a win against Seattle, just like Greenberg-Ryan did against the Crane-Cuban group.

Wat it an Omen? Or maybe Ryan’s destiny? Hells no, and if Ryan has Destiny he better take her back to the strip club ASAP.

Chalking Ryan’s (and Greenberg’s) victory up to some preordained cosmic event diminishes what they worked so hard to achieve.

Haynesworth’s a failure, again

Disgruntled Washington Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth, the highest paid defensive player in the National Football League, can’t pass a conditioning test.

Anyone seen Albert?

On his first attempt at passing the conditioning test Haynesworth failed after taking an extended bathroom break in the middle of it; on the second attempt he just failed it; there was a swollen knee used as an excuse on the third and fourth attempts and word today is he walked onto the field with his helmet in hand but didn’t take the test.

Who would’ve thought that the bathroom break turned out to be the best excuse Haynesworth’s got. This is the problem with guaranteed money, and football, like every other sport, will be much better when guaranteed money is limited to say 5-10 percent of a player’s contract.

Haynesworth made it known that he was skipping off-season workouts and now he’s failing or refusing to take a conditioning test. What a disaster; what a pitiful man.

Looks like it’s going to a long, unproductive season in D.C.
